Passion Magazine, No. 35: Report "In light of the candles" When one contemplates its minute time delay to the centuries that ever lived. We never thought it would be like a temple before Thomas Edison invented the incandescent bulb. Spaces are probably grim, dark relieved only by the lights of the candles of the altar or on special occasions, through the forest of candles that were placed in front of the pictures on the altars of worship. Now two young photographers have been commissioned to make us live those centuries in which we never did. Written by Francisco José López de Paz

Canaveral light in the dark church in San Lorenzo |
In the previous issue, the story of Manuel Jesus Roldan noted in some detail photos of the art of chiaroscuro than a year ago began to run two young photographers who have hardly grown beyond age 20. Son Jose Javier Comas and Manuel Jesus Rodriguez Rechi. Including first cousins, their surnames will betray a profound connection to the world of fraternities. Javier belongs to the saga of the Exaltation Comas, and Manuel Jesus to the Rechi. From a very young began to treat the camera like a toy until he got to know their secrets and mysteries. It is very difficult to see them down the street without the backpacks and without the bench that used to take the pictures. Collaborate with web Passion in Seville and other publications. How did they start shooting the altars of worship no other light than that of candelerías? "My father says José Javier, who is also a photographer started making these in your guild who is also mine, exaltation, from there other photographers also made them. What happens is that we in the past year we have made a systematic way, like it's a collection of altars in the dark lit only by candles. "

Cera at different modeling high light in the Third |
Both Manuel José Javier As Jesus told that sometimes the same members of the fraternity who are called to propose to turn the church and take the photographs. The first of the series was three years ago in San Pedro. Capraeon there in the gloom of the dark temple and the altar of Christ of Burgos just lit with wax. But the ongoing series not resumed until January 2010 with the altar of worship for the Punishment of San Vicente. The result was overwhelming. The two cones of wax had formed a double plume very similar to that crowns the Empire State of New York modeling with soft double arrow pointing to the heights. A wonder of physics and metaphysics. From there came all the others. The Hiniesta, La Soledad de San Lorenzo, La Virgen del Underground, Vera Cruz, La Carretería ...
Sometimes at the end of each session José Javier and Manuel Jesus come out of the Church or installed in the choir the temple to take a picture with the apparatus of religious perspective, illuminated by candlelight. They are snapshots of that impact because in light joins in these cases the perspective as a factor of beauty. In any event, both in the distance as in the vicinity, the human eye discover new profiles the same on the whole than in the detail of the image that appears differently when one receives the light of the candle wax.

One of the most unique is the Soledad de San Lorenzo whose altar of worship may be the more wax you have on everyone. With some distance, the image shown is a double fire lighting up the dark circles of the Virgen de San Lorenzo offers a frightening face with this lighting. The same goes to Our Lady of Sorrows Hiniesta Underground or to accentuate the features of pain when they receive this light. No wonder. The image- the golden age when they made a play for the cult had in mind that the wax would be the only element that would illuminate. Maybe we are now discovering the true profile that teachers wanted to teach us the pictures that came from his workshop.
all been made possible through new eyes that have brought us old prints. Two photographers José Javier and Manuel Jesus have given the old light air day. FEATURED
